Alberta’s Family Day weekend is February 17-19, and this year, there is no shortage of fun, family friendly activities to do around Calgary! From Friday all the way through holiday Monday, there is a great mix of educational, historic and festive fun to be had! If you’re still looking for a way to keep busy this Family Day long weekend, check out some of these great activities happening right here in Calgary!
Celebrate the Chinese New Year

To celebrate, head down to the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre for the city’s largest Chinese New Year party for all ages! The CNY Carnival is a fun, annual celebration to ring in the Chinese New Year. The event includes special decorations and traditional Chinese performances including music, dance, lantern displays, riddles and art. Get an authentic Calgary experience at WinterFest

Penguin March at the Calgary Zoo

Watch on with a warm cup of hot chocolate as the king penguins take to the pathways and royally waddle their way throughout the Zoo. Starting at 11am daily, the penguins will leave the Penguin Plunge enclosure and begin to roam. Lucky visitors may have the opportunity to see up to 10 king penguins roaming the grounds. Walks are always dependent on the penguin’s desire to join in, and they are also weather dependent, as it must be between +5 and -25 for the penguins to be out.

The Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre is celebrating family day by offering a huge list of fun, family friendly activities for everyone to enjoy. For just $15 per family, family pickleball and basketball are available to be played. Kids soccer and public skating are also being offered. If you are interested in learning about other health and fitness opportunities; kickboxing, zumba and soccer demonstrations will be happening throughout the day.
